Vardøger, originally known as Hidden Paradise, was a melodic death metal project that originated in 1995 out of Trondheim, Norway on the continent of Europe. The band released an EP and a studio album before disbanding in 2018.[1]

History[]

Vardøger originated in 1995, under the name of Hidden Paradise. The band originally performed doom metal and death metal for the time, until they changed their name.[2] The band changed their name to Vardøger around 1996. Originally, the lineup consisted of Vocalist Peter Dalbakk, Guitarist Robert Bordevik, Guitarist Stian Aarebrot, and Bassist Magnus Westgaard. The band recorded a single track titled "Footprints of Thunder", which debuted on Endtime Productions' sampler, In the Shadow of Death, which released in 2000.[3] Prior to the single being recorded, the band added on Guitarist Alexander Dalbakk, Keyboardist Knut Anders Sørum, and Drummer Tom Arne Fossum.[4] In 2003, the band was able to record an EP, titled Whitefrozen,[5] as well as an additional single, "Almighty".[6][7]

The band would then perform a final show around 2006 and be revived around 2010 when they performed at Nordic Fest 2010.[8] Around that time the band saw extensive lineup changes, which prompted a name change. However, this never came to pass.[6] The band's newest lineup which solidified around 2013 - consisting of the Dalbakk brothers, Bordevik, Sørum, Drummer Johannes Baumann, Vocalist Johanne Bordevik, and Bassist Henning Ramseth. The band would finally record their debut album, after a long hiatus, titled Ghost Notes.[9] Following the album's release, Baumann departed from the band. Baumann was replaced by Jo Henning Børven of Grave Declaration, Antestor, and Arvinger.[10] On March 14, 2017, it was announced Johanne and Peter would depart from the band.[11] Bordevik took over Dalbakk's position and Johanne's position was taken over by Jørn Øyhus. Once the positions had been filled, the band embarked on a tour with Crimson Moonlight.[11] On October 17, 2018, the band disbanded on good terms, citing life as the reason they disbanded.[12][13]
