Possession was a death and thrash metal band that originated out of Olathe, Kansas in the United States. The band began in 1991 as Absalom but quickly changed their name.

History

Possession began in 1991 out of Olathe, Kansas in the United States. The band began with the lineup of Nyk Edinger on Vocals, Mike Vinson and Shayne Scholl on Guitars, Lance Whipple on Bass, and Shane Goade on Drums.[1] In 1993, the band debuted a demo, titled Mad Crazed & Violent.[1] Following the demo's release, they released an EP, The Unnamable Suffering.[2][3]

In 1995, the band released their debut album, Eternally Haunt, was released, as was a 2-song promo for Metal Merchant Records.[1][2][4][5][6] The band would then see Goade depart, being replaced by John Longstreth.[7] Whipple had also departed from the band.[8]

In 1997, Scourge and Fire was released, independently. By 2000, the band officially disbanded. A year later, Edinger reunited with Scholl and Goade in the black metal band Frost Like Ashes, while Longstreth went on to join Skinless, Gorguts, and Origin.[7]
