The Thlipsis is a thrash metal project that originated out of Lafeyette, Indiana in the United States. The project originated in 2018, originally as Thlipsis, formed by Hyperion Zhang.
History[]
In 2018,[1] Hyperion Zhang formed a thrash metal project called Thlipsis, while studying at Purdue University in Lafeyette, Indiana. During his studies, he met Chris Amsden and the two began writing music, coming out with a debut demo song.
The project, however, took an extended break while the two were finishing their studies. By 2020, Amsden moved to Portland, Oregon, while Zhang remained in Lafeyette. Zhang would go on to join a hard rock band called Risen, where he met Mason Beard, who was highly interested in playing drums for the project. Beard, who also performs with blackened death metal band Symphony of Heaven and multi-genre metal Timōrātus, joined on.
The band made the simple name change to The Thlipsis, after discovering another band had the name of Thlipsis already. The band would also sign with The Bearded Dragon Productions, Beard's extreme metal label.[2] Shortly after signing, the band recorded their debut track, "Darkness Breakout", with Zhang managing Vocals and Guitars, Amsden on Bass, and Beard on Drums.[3]
