Dirge was a nu-metal band that originated in the United States. The band was formed by John Gibson and Joey Castellaneta, who had previously performed in Aeturnus together, a thrash and death metal band that only released a single album and a demo.[1][2] The band went from 1998 to 2003.[1] At some point, the band got to open for Extol in Kansas City, Missouri.[3] In 2001, they were featured on the tribute album to Living Sacrifice, cover "...To Nothing" off of Nonexistent.[4]

In 2015, Dirge was featured on a compilation released through Solid State Records for the video game Killing Floor 2, released by Tripwire Interactive, a company run by Gibson.[5]
